Your pet’s heart health matters, and many heart conditions benefit from specialized expertise and advanced diagnostic tools. When a cardiology evaluation is recommended, our collaborative approach allows your pet to receive specialized cardiology services in a familiar and convenient environment.
After the evaluation, we work closely with the cardiology team to help coordinate your pet’s continued care and treatment plan as needed. Our goal is to make specialized care as accessible and seamless as possible for both you and your pet.
To provide access to high-quality cardiac care, we partner with Dr Luiz Bolfer, MV, DVM, Ph.D.(Veterinary Clinical Science with focus in Cardiology and Genetics), Dip.BCVECC, Residency Trained (ACVECC and ACVIM-Cardiology) and his team to see cases.
AVS or your family veterinarian may recommend a cardiology evaluation if your pet is experiencing certain symptoms or has findings that suggest a heart condition. Early evaluation and diagnosis can help guide treatment recommendations and support your pet’s long-term health and quality of life.
Common reasons for referral include:
Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER), commonly called the V-Clamp procedure, is an innovative minimally invasive treatment option for select dogs with mitral valve disease. Instead of traditional open-heart surgery, this procedure uses a specialized device designed to help reduce leakage through the mitral valve.
The V-Clamp device is placed using advanced imaging guidance and works by bringing portions of the valve together, helping improve valve function and reduce abnormal backward blood flow (mitral regurgitation). All of which can be diagnosed, operated and set for recovery at AVS. Our team works closely with our specialty cardiology partners to determine whether advanced treatment options, including TEER evaluation, may be appropriate for your pet.
If your pet has been referred for cardiology services or you simply have concerns about their heart health, we’re here to help. Reach out to our team at AVS to learn more or to find out if a cardiology consultation is right for your pet.
